SILO LONDON
2019
Silo London is the world's first Zero-Waste restaurant. Its aim is to innovate the food industry whilst demonstrating respect: respect for the environment, respect for the way food is generated and respect for the nourishment we give to our bodies.
This is also the interpretation for the interior of Silo where each material and product for the space is carefully considered. Designed by interior designer Nina Woodcroft from Nina&Co, she has worked with brands from all over the world to select zero-waste products which add value to the space and fit with the ethos and aims of Silo as a restaurant.
Tŷ Syml were fortunate that this was the first commercial project we collaborated on and it has led to our design studio developing as a brand which is completely zero-waste in the way in which we produce our products. Our ALGÂU lights started as a research project that our co-founder Adam undertook for his Master’s degree in design. Working with Nina this research then led to the development of a viable product.
The seaweed for our ALGÂU lights is responsibly grown not far from our studio in Pembrokeshire by Câr-y-Môr, the first commercial seaweed farm in Wales. Their goal is to improve the coastal environment and the wellbeing of the local community, by stimulating jobs and providing young people with a route into the Welsh seafood sector, an industry of growing national importance. Tŷ Syml are also investors within Câr-y-Môr to help support their growth alongside our own.
