Seaweed

This material experimentation began with our belief that design should reduce the negative impact we have on the environment. We wanted to explore the possibilities of utilising a natural, abundant and sustainable material such as seaweed as a basis from which to generate new products. Throughout our initial research we experienced many failures, where mould would start growing a few days after the seaweed had been processed. Eventually, through adaptation to the processing and by taking the seaweed through a number of different stages were able to create a new bio-material that could be used as a composite for future products.
